BUT I'M NOT SURE IF THAT'S TRUE.

AS A DEBATER, THE GROWING LOVE AND COMPETITIVE AMBITION FOR THE ACTIVITY THAT HEAVILY INFLUENCED MY DECISION IN TRANSFERRING TO THE NUMBER ONE RANKED TEAM IN THE NATION, WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL WAS A VERY BIG AND IMPORTANT DECISION FOR ME, WHERE LIKE MINDED INDIVIDUALS CULMINATED TO CREATE THE HIGHEST MEMBERSHIP IN THE STATE OF TEXAS FOR DEBATERS AND AS WELL AS SIGNIFICANT STATEWIDE AND NATIONAL LEVEL SUCCESS EVERY YEAR OUT.
UNFORTUNATELY, IT WAS IN THE SAME YEAR THAT OUR PROGRAM DIDN'T ATTAIN A HEAD COACH, AND THE HIRING PROCESS HAS BECOME EXCEEDINGLY DIFFICULT, ALMOST SOLELY DUE TO THE LACK OF STIPEND FOR THE JOB.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE COACH ARE UNLIKE ANY OTHER.

REGISTRATION, JUDGING TRANSPORTATION, CLEANUP CONCESSIONS, PAIRINGS FOR ROUNDS, AND A SLEW OF MISCELLANEOUS [INAUDIBLE] THAT GO MOSTLY UNNOTICED.NOT TO MENTION THAT THE LABOR IS REQUIRED USUALLY ON THE WEEKENDS WHERE MOST WORKING PEOPLE REST, AS WELL AS EVERY DAY DUTIES OF CONSTANTLY MANAGING A PROGRAM WITH A MEMBERSHIP AS BIG AS WESTWOOD'S AT GIVEN ANY GIVEN HOUR RESPONDING TO MESSAGES AND EMAILS FROM STUDENTS, PARENTS AND MEMBERS OF THE BOOSTER CLUB.
THESE BURDENS IN RUNNING A PROGRAM ARE QUITE OVERWHELMING.
WITHOUT A COACH, OUR PROGRAM LACKED THE GROWTH OF PAST YEARS.
UNFORTUNATELY, THE LACK OF A STIPEND HAS DISCOURAGED MANY GREAT COACHES.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TO OFFER EARLY IN THE YEAR ROUND ROCK HIGH SCHOOL ALSO HAD THEIR OWN FAIR SHARE OF DEBATE DRAMA THAT ALLOWED THEM THAT IN WHICH WESTWOOD WAS NOT ABLE TO PROPERLY SUPPORT THEM TO THE LEVEL THAT WE ONCE WERE ABLE TO.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, WITHOUT A HEAD COACH.
AT THE TOP OF THIS ALL, WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT THE COMMUNITY OF STUDENTS THAT ALLOW THIS PROGRAM TO THRIVE ARE NO LONGER ACTUALLY MOTIVATED TO STAY IN THE PROGRAM OR INCREASE OUR MEMBERSHIP AS A WHOLE.
THIS LACK OF A CENTRAL AUTHORITY IS WEST MAKING [INAUDIBLE] DEBATE.
IT IS WHAT HAS MADE WEST DEBATE GREAT.
AND IT IS WHAT WILL MAKE LOTS OF DEBATE GREAT IN THE FUTURE.
AND UNFORTUNATELY, WITHOUT A HIGHER INCREASED EDUCATIONAL STIPEND, IT HAS SINGLE HANDEDLY STIFLED MANY OF THE TOP DEBATE, DEBATE DIRECTORS OR DEBATE THAT HAVE WANTED TO WORK AT WESTWOOD HIGH SCHOOL, FOR EXAMPLE, AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS TOURNAMENT, IN WHICH WE SECURED SOME OF THE WE SECURED TEAM SWEEPSTAKES.

THEREFORE, THIS NEED FOR FUNDING POSES AN ISSUE THAT I STRONGLY URGE THE BOARD TO ACT ON.

I FOUND A STRONG NETWORK OF PEERS, A COMMUNITY WHERE I COULD EXPLORE WHO I WAS AND WHAT I STOOD FOR WITHOUT JUDGMENT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, EDUCATE MYSELF ON A MULTITUDE OF GLOBAL ISSUES THAT A TRADITIONAL SCHOOL EXPERIENCE DOESN'T PROVIDE.
THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE EXPERIENCE, I HAD THE STRONG SUPPORT OF MY COACH, SOMETHING MANY OF OUR UNDERCLASSMEN THIS YEAR SHOULD ALSO BE ABLE TO HAVE IN THE FUTURE, ALLOWING US TO SUCCEED NATIONALLY AND STATEWIDE.

THEIR PROPOSED COMPENSATION PLAN FOR NEXT YEAR IS IDENTICAL TO THIS YEAR'S PLANS IN TERMS OF LVN AND PAY, MEANING THAT THEY GET NO PAY RAISE, NOT EVEN A COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT. SO AFTER HELPING THIS DISTRICT STRUGGLE THROUGH A PANDEMIC, AFTER HANGING ON WHEN BETTER OPPORTUNITIES WERE OUT THERE, AFTER THEIR DEDICATION AND STAGGERING EFFORTS, YOU ARE PROPOSING THAT A CERTAIN CLUSTER OF NURSES GET ZERO INCREASE IN COMPENSATION TO AN ALREADY SUBPAR PAY STRUCTURE.
WE'VE LOST SOME VERY GOOD LVNS TO THE OPEN MARKET.
THE ONES WHO DECIDED TO STAY DID SO OUT OF DEDICATION TO THE KIDS THEY'VE CARED FOR MANY YEARS.

THIS IS POTENTIALLY ALSO A TITLE NINE ISSUE.
ONE EXAMPLE IS SET FOR OUR CHILDREN AND WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY? IF MY DAUGHTER WANTS TO SEE A BASEBALL PLAYER IN HIS BOXERS, IT SHOULD BE ON HER TERMS AND NOT BECAUSE SHE SHOWED UP TO PRACTICE.

AND AGAIN, SEVERAL IDEAS THERE, BUT I THINK MARSHA CAN HELP US WITH THAT.

SO THAT'S THAT'S A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE FROM YEARS PAST.
AND ONE REAL POINT THAT I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT HERE, AND I'M USING SLIDES STRAIGHT FROM TEA TO COMMUNICATE MOST OF THIS, BUT I REALLY WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT SLIDE, THAT BULLET POINT THERE. THERE IS ALSO BE PULLED OUT AND REPORTED SEPARATELY.
THEY WON'T BE THEIR OWN ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP.
I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD NECESSARILY CORRELATE ONE TO THE OTHER BECAUSE THE STUDENTS WHO PERFORMED HIGH WERE PERFORMING HIGH PRIOR TO OUR VIRTUAL LEARNING PROGRAM OR PERFORMING HIGH AFTERWARDS. SO IT WILL BE INTERESTING TO HAVE THAT THAT DATA BACK WHEN WE GET IT FROM THE STATE AND GO AHEAD AND GO ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
AND REALLY WHAT I WANT TO REMIND EVERYBODY AND HIGHLIGHT HERE IS, IS FOR OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUS, ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES, THAT IT TRULY IS A ONE TEST ON ONE DAY KIND OF MENTALITY. AND THERE'S TWO PARTS TO DOMAIN TWO, OF COURSE, THERE'S THAT ACADEMIC PROGRESS.
BUT JUST WANT TO BRING UP ONE MORE TIME IS THAT IN THIS YEAR, IN 2022, THE ONLY STUDENTS THAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE MEASURING OF PART A FOR DOMAIN TWO SCHOOL PROGRESS ARE STUDENTS WHO CHOSE TO COME IN AND TAKE THE STAAR EXAM LAST SPRING.
BUT FOR ROUND ROCK ISD OVERALL WE HAD ABOUT 70% PARTICIPATION RATE LAST YEAR.
SO THAT MEANS ESSENTIALLY THAT 30% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE GOING TO BE PULLED OUT OF THIS DOMAIN.
SO THAT'S GOING TO HAVE A HAVE AN IMPACT ON OUR CAMPUS RATINGS BECAUSE THOSE STUDENTS THERE WON'T BE A POSSIBLE POINT THAT THOSE STUDENTS COULD SCORE, THAT THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO IF THEY TOOK THAT ASSESSMENT LAST YEAR.
NEXT SLIDE, JENNIFER, JUST WANTED TO KIND OF SHOW HOW THE POINT SYSTEM WORKS.

IN THIS SYSTEM, IT REALLY PUSHES US AND PUSHES US IN TEACHING AND LEARNING AND ON CAMPUSES TO BE WORKING WITH STUDENTS WHO ARE PERFORMING AT ALL LEVELS. SO JUST AS AN EXAMPLE ON HERE, YOU COULD HAVE A STUDENT WHO APPROACHES GRADE LEVEL LAST YEAR FOR THAT STUDENT TO EARN A POINT.

THEY'LL ALSO TAKE TELL, PASS AND TELL PASS THEN IS FILTERED INTO THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM AS WELL.
SO YOU CAN SEE THAT ESSENTIALLY THE CAMPUSES WILL RECEIVE A SCORE IN THIS DOMAIN AND THEY'RE NOT ALL PORTIONS THAT ARE NOT WEIGHTED EQUALLY IS STILL VERY HEAVY ON THE ACTUAL STAAR PERFORMANCE OF HOW STUDENT CAMPUSES GET THAT RATING.
THIS I WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT TOO, THESE ARE THE TARGETS.
SO WE THE STATE PUTS OUT TARGETS THAT ARE MORE AGGRESSIVE FOR SOME GROUPS THAN OTHERS.
I JUST WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT HERE THAT THESE THESE TARGETS, OF COURSE, HAVE NOT CHANGED SINCE 2017.
IT'S EITHER YOU EARN THE POINT OR YOU DON'T EARN THE POINT.

SO THESE ARE POSITIONS SUCH AS REGISTERED NURSES, INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY SPECIALISTS, INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES, AND THEN THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AND PRINCIPALS WE HAD IMPLEMENTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO, I THINK IT WAS IN THE 1617 YEAR, AN EDUCATOR PATHWAY FOR SALARY PURPOSES THAT TIED THOSE TYPES OF POSITIONS TO TEACHER PAY BECAUSE BEFORE THEY WERE SEPARATE.
THEY MIGHT JUST SEE AN INCREASE IN DAYS WORKED.
SO THIS EDUCATOR PATHWAY HAS BEEN A WAY FOR US TO ADDRESS THAT.
AND SO WHAT YOU'RE SEEING ON THAT SECOND BULLET IS WE WOULD ENSURE ONCE THEY RECEIVE THAT 2% OF MIDPOINT, THEY WOULD ALSO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GOT AN EQUITY ADJUSTMENT FOR RELATED TO TEACHER PAY TO ENSURE THERE ARE AT LEAST 3% ABOVE A TEACHER WITH THE SAME YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.
AND THEN THE IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS SLIDE, THE LAST BULLET IS ABOUT SOME ADDITIONAL ADJUSTMENTS FOR THOSE EMPLOYEES THAT ONCE THESE INCREASES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, IF THEIR POSITION ARE THEIR SALARY IS STILL 90% OF THE MIDPOINT, SO THEY'RE 10% BELOW MIDPOINT.

SO YOU'RE ALWAYS TRYING TO ACCELERATE PEOPLE TO THAT MIDPOINT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
